What is Urban Exploration?

According to Wikipedia, urban exploration (also referred to as "urbex") is defined as "the exploration of man-made structures, usually abandoned ruins or not usually seen components of the man-made environment".

Some of these places include: abandoned amusement parks, factories, houses, hotels, etc. Urban exploration can also include drainage tunnels and other active, but typically inaccessible areas.

Urban exploration commonly involves trespassing, which is illegal. However, most urban explorers do not have illegal intentions, such as vandalism. A common motto among urban explorers is, "Take nothing but pictures. Leave nothing but footprints."

While typically illegal and potentially dangerous due to unstable structures, many find the rewards worth the risk. Those interested in photography and history may find urban exploration a worthwhile hobby.
